Muide

by Administrator 25. September 2008 04:00

This is a poem about ourselves - the Irish psyche - what makes us what we are and how we are from our own point of view. Generally we're a happy bunch!!

Muide

Tá Meiriocánaigh ag lorg a bhpréamha
Is ag éileamh gach rud le seamróg
Iad ag tóraíocht aon ní atá Gaelach
A cheanglaíos a sliocht lenár bhfód.
Tá scoláirí an domhain i mbun staidéar
Ár dteanga, ár gcultúir is ár gceoil
Ag adhradh annála ár dtíre
Go dtuigfidís Gaeil is a meoin.

Níl ionainn ach oileáinín uallach
Gan againn aon saibhreas ná maoin
Ní féidir linn féin sinn a thuiscint
Muid mar fhadhb ag gach ollamh is saoi.
I gcónaí faoi ghaoth agus gála
An fharraige dé shíor inár gcluas
Agus ceobhrán is fearthainn is báisteach
Ag stealladh gan staonadh anuas.

Is beag é ár nguth i measc náisiúin
Bídeach ár dtionchur is cumhacht
Is ní fhaighimíd fócas na bpáipéar
Go mbíonn scannal linn spréite sa nuacht.
Muid deighilte mar threibh inár gcríocha
Sa gCríostaíocht, i gcathair is faoin tuath
Is is fánach gach iarracht ar réiteach
Tá gach éinne ar lorg an bhua.

Ach tá rud eicínt go docht inár ngéaga
A dhéanann de 'muide' muid féin
Le fuil Normánach, Lochlannach is Ceilteach
Tá meirleachas a dhéanann dínn Gaeil.
Muid gealgháireach, flaithiúil, cineálta
Fós cúram na mbocht inár gcroí
Is is cuma faoi ualach ár n-imní
Ní ligfimíd ár spiorad a chloí.

Buailfimíd bleaist ar mhileoidin
Is cúpla céim damhsa ar leac
Don diabhal le gearán is gangaid
Dúinn sláinte, fad saoil agus craic.
Uainn comhluadar cairde is comharsan
Ár saibhreas i sparán teann Dé
Is pé áit ar domhan a mbeidh tú
Cloisfidh tú gáire na nGael!

About the author

I love  writing poems in the Irish language. Most of my conversations/communications are usually in Irish as it is my favourite language in all the world.  I live in the west of Ireland, enjoying the wind, the rain and the rare glimpses of the sun.  I love the sound of the sea and the constant singing of birds and these are echoed in my verses.  I have published three books of poetry: 'Cúinne na mBard', 'Cumar na mBard' and 'An Teacht amach' with Coiscéim.  The last title has a long story behind it that I will save for another day.  I regard myself as a bard rather than a poet because most of my verses are about practical things, ordinary people and places rather than the mystic and the mysterious even though there's a touch of that here and there in some poems.  I am really just a learner in this field so bear with me and enjoy the reading as I do the writing.
